Partnerships
Stonebridge Breeding Ltd, based in Evesham, UK, provides expert biotechnology services to commercial, public and university clients involved in genetic improvement of food production species. Stonebridge is assisting PGI with interpretation of genomics information collected on its proprietary mouse lines as well as validation as breeding markers of its candidate genes for reproductive longevity in cattle, pigs and poultry.
PGI recently initiated a collaboration with the NRC Institute for Marine Biosciences (NRC-IMB). Based in Halifax, Nova Scotia, the institute is one of Canada's most capable analytical centres with one of North America's most comprehensive capabilities in mass spectrometry. Dr. Devanand Pinto, a research specialist in proteomics technology development, is leading the project, which will employ the latest mass spectrophotometry techniques to compare protein profiles of the company’s selected and control mouse lines, providing information that will assist the company with gene discovery and complement its other efforts to determine their mode of action on reproductive longevity.
The gene expression component of PGI’s gene discovery program will be supported by the Atlantic Microarray Facility in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. This centre, part of the Atlantic Cancer Research Institute, is a regional leader in genomics research, providing a full range of genomics products and services. The Facility also provides informatics support for the data obtained from arrays. PGI is using the animal breeding and genomics expertise of Stonebridge Breeding Ltd, Evesham, England to assist with the establishment of partnerships for validation of its RL markers in various livestock species.
